John FAIRHURST was the son of Chloe SYMONDS and Frank Warburton FAIRHURST. John was born about  late 1913 or early 1914.

John is mentioned in Chloe’s letter written to WH Grant on 9th July 1918. She writes of her eldest son John being “very backward” and was 5 and a half. She mentions that her daughter Joan was 4 years and 3 months of age and her youngest boy Geoffrey was turning 3 the week the letter was written. She goes on to mention they had very much liked “Bill” (WH Grant Jr.) when he visited them.

In a letter written to WH Grant by his son WH Grant Jr (AKA Bill or Will), he writes that he had 6 days leave and stayed with the Fairhursts. He mentions they were very nice (people) and gave him a good time. He makes mention of Chloe’s husband working at the mills during the war as a bookkeeper but also carried on the duty of Vicar to the Barrowford Parish.

He also mentions of the couple having two boys and a girl. He seemed to take a great liking to the children who he made mention were bright and lovely kids, the baby boy (Geoffrey) as being 2 years old and “just Chloe all over again”.

John Fairhurst had Down’s syndrome and died at the age of 30. He was looked after by his mother in her home until he passed away. Chloe was in her 40’s when she had her three children. (ref.
