Frank Warburton FAIRHURST was born to an Ecclesiastical family in Lancashire UK. He was married to Chloe Mary SYMONDS (ref. Alison Challis – daughter-in-law of Chloe’s daugther Joan Mary FAIRHURST and wife of Dr Andrew Luke Challis).

In a letter written to WH Grant by his son WH Grant Jr (AKA Bill or Will) he writes that he stayed with the Fairhursts whilst on leave. He wrote that they were very nice people and made him very welcome. He tells in his letter that Chloe’s husband worked as a Bookkeeper during the war but also performed his duties as the Vicar to the Barrowford Parish.

He mentions that the Fairhursts had 3 children, John (5 year old at that time with Down Syndrome), Joan and Geoffrey.

Chloe’s letter to WH Grant in July 1918 addresses her letter as “Barrowford Vicarage”, Nelson, Lancashire.

Frank also would not put John in a home, he was a man before his time. He worked in a bank to put his brother through Oxford and then himself subsequently before he was married. So hard working so much deferred gratification. (Source Alison Challis)
