Charles Henry “Charlie” GRANT was born in Alexandria, Egypt on 1 September 1889. Charlie was W.H Grant’s nephew, son of his brother Theophile who died in Egypt some years prior to the outbreak of WW1. It is clear that Charlie had very close family connections to W.H Grant and sons which is clearly evident in their frequent correspondence during that period. When his cousin, Folsch Newenham GRANT went missing in action 4 April 1918, Charlie went to great lengths to investigate his fate as can be seen in this archive from Folsch’s war records.

It is also stated on his death certificate that he had resided in Australia since the age of 4.

Unfortunately there is little known about Charlie after the end of WW1.  There is reference to Charlie in Auguste Boucherie’s letter to Nellie Rogan nee Grant in 1929. He had heard from Nellie’s letter to Heather Zullig that Charlie was married and had a child.

Charlie’s death certificate states he married Elizabeth Lucy Bertha SMITH in Dungog, NSW (not far from Stroud) at the age of 31. They had a son, Rees GRANT, born 1926.

Charles Henry GRANT was cremated at Palmdale Crematorium on 28th June 1974.
