Winsome UTHER was born 28 April, 1906 in Bellingen, NSW. Winsome was the eldest child of Leonard UTHER and Rhoda GRANT. She married Stanley Raymond PHIPPARD 3rd January, 1929. She died at Macalister, Queensland 15 August, 1979.
Winsome and Stanley had two children:

A brief paragraph about my mother. – Winsome Uther. She was born in Coffs Harbour and from there was sent to boarding school- New England Girls School in Armidale. Her sister Joyce was also sent there. However, as Nancy was much younger, and by that time, Len & Rhoda had moved to a property out of Cowra, so was sent from there.. After secondary school, Winsome attended the University of Sydney and stayed at The Women’s College there. Her aunt Jenny Uther was in the 2nd intake of students at Women’s College in 1895. It is probably where she met my father – Stanley Raymond Phippard, as he had attended St Paul’s College next door to The Women’s College. They were married in 1929. My mother gained a bachelor of Arts degree and they moved up to Canberra in 1935, where my father was one of the 2 solicitors in Canberra. My mother brought up her 4 children and did not work outside the home. She had joined a number of organizations – Women Graduates, the Overseas league,, helping at school fetes etc, and entertained quite extensively. Her main interests were gardening and reading and an interest in the arts.
