Albert William GAMBLE “Alby” was born 30 June 1937 In Paddington NSW Australia. He married Marie Judith GRANT in 1959.
Alby was born in the Hills District, and grew up on a poultry farm in Darcy Road, Castle Hill. His old home was still there in 2016, even though the land has been sold off around it.
Marie wrote that his parents moved to Baulkham Hills when they sold the farm after WWII. They build a new home in Jasper Road, Baulkham Hills.
When Alby and Marie married in 1959, they lived rent free in one of the 2 flats Alby’s parents had built next door to them, where they lived for 2 years. Sandy their eldest daughter (born 18 June,1961) while they were living there.
In 1961, they bought a block of land at 1 Worthing Ave, Castle Hill for 1,000 pounds. Alby was working as an estimator for a project builder, and built their house in his spare time. They moved in (early 1962) when the house was at “lock up”, no tiles in the bathroom, no floor coverings, no light fittings, no patios. Marie said “it was ours & we loved it”.
Karen (born 28 September 1962) and Fiona (born 12 January 1965) were born whilst they were living in Worthing Ave Castle Hill. They moved to Tamworth at the end of 1967, but they didn’t sell Worthing Ave (choosing to lease the property).
The family moved back to Sydney in 1972 and took up residence in their new home in Derriwong Lane, Round Corner, Dural. Except for the 4 years they were in Tamworth, Alby lived his whole life in the Hills District. Marie was born & raised in West Ryde, where she lived with her family until she married Alby.
